Back in prehistoric times when i went to school , initially my dad built an L shaped table for me to use based on a table one of my elementary school teachers had beside her desk. It was the ideal shape for me to get under with my wheelchair and be able to easily write. Unfortunately high school and college had too many classes would have to switch between for that to work and schools were a little less apt to make accommodations. Also as a high school or college student, you don't really want to stand out with your own special table. Kid's can be ruthless if think any other kid is getting 'special ' treatment even if it is necessary like a table. i learned to use a regular student desk by driving in facing the chair. Children with SMA can participate in many extracurricular activities and develop friendships just like their peers. While traditional playgrounds may have limitations, there are increasing efforts to create fully accessible playgrounds where children with SMA can actively participate rather than just observe.
