I have not tried a bed lift, but once upon a time I had a sleep number that had electric head foot elevation, so when I elevated my head/back it was easier for me or for my attendant, now it's a dead lift sit up for my partner.

Have you found a bed lift helpful for sitting up?

Difficulty sitting up without back support is a common challenge with SMA. While the search results don't specifically mention bed lifts, they do discuss how sitting difficulties vary by SMA type and how assistive devices can improve quality of life.

People with SMA types 0 and 1 may never be able to sit up unsupported, while those with type 2 usually develop the ability in early childhood but may lose it over time as the condition progresses.

Many people with SMA have found that various assistive devices significantly improve their independence and daily functioning. One mySMAteam member shared how getting a mobility scooter transformed their life - what they initially worried might be a sign of defeat actually freed them and improved their quality of life tremendously.

The key is finding what works for your specific needs. If you're considering a bed lift, it might be worth discussing with your physical or occupational therapist, as they can help evaluate whether it's the right solution for you and ensure proper positioning to prevent pressure sores or other complications.

Other members on mySMAteam may have direct experience with bed lifts and could share their insights about what's worked for them.
